XX Sinking Fly Lines By Lou Tabory A sinking line must be castable, handle well, and sink quickly. It's vital to have the proper size front taper, head length, rear taper, and running line. Front taper: This short front taper makes a sinking line cast smoother, and eliminates the sharp kick that can make casting difficult. Head: This head length is just right-long enough to turn over without shocking the rod, yet short enough to extend well beyond the tip. Rear taper: This longer rear taper prevents hinging when extending the head beyond the tip, and allows roll casting with less effort. Running line: This large-diameter running line tangles less. It is also easier to handle, and gives you more control. |
